The four resorts in this section stand in Canada, and the room they share is not a gaming floor. In each one it is a concert or theatre hall, and the ground that carries it out towards water: a terrace, a promenade, a lake shore. The gaming floor is not described, not assessed, and not treated as a meeting place.
Age
Casinos are for adults only. In Canada the minimum age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Québec; elsewhere it depends on where you are.
01 Montreal Casino & Hotel

The pavilions were built for a world's fair, and everyone ends up on the terrace
The Room They Share
Two former world's fair pavilions on an island in the river carry the resort, and their upper levels open into wide halls instead of corridors. Restaurants and a live programme room feed off the same circulation, so one route serves them all. Along the river side, terraces run the length of the building and stay in general use.
Who Turns Up
Published material puts hotel guests, restaurant bookings and ticket holders for the live programme on the same halls, because there is no second way in. The island is reached by bridge and metro from the city, so people arrive from Montreal for an evening and leave the same night. Staff cross the halls constantly.
What The Room Makes Possible
A single circulation route with restaurants opening off it means people going three different ways pass each other on the way. The terraces face water on both sides, and because they hold no tables of their own, they are used standing up and by anyone walking through.

02 Fallsview Casino Resort

A theatre and a gallery of glass above the gorge, one hall, one long window
The Room They Share
Set into the slope above the gorge, the resort keeps its theatre auditorium and a long public gallery on the same level. The gallery is glazed along its whole outer wall and looks straight down the escarpment. Restaurants and a spa entrance sit off it, and the walk between them is the walk along the window.
Who Turns Up
The theatre draws ticket holders who are not staying overnight, and published descriptions place them in the same gallery as hotel guests and restaurant tables. Niagara Falls is a day-trip town, so much of the traffic through the gallery arrives in the afternoon and is gone before the last bus.
What The Room Makes Possible
Because the auditorium empties into the gallery rather than onto a street, an audience leaving a performance walks the length of the window with everyone already standing there. The glazing runs unbroken, so there is no corner to stand in and no second row.

03 River Rock Casino Resort

A concert hall inland and a working marina outside, the hall and the waterfront
The Room They Share
On the arm of the Fraser at Richmond, the resort pairs an indoor concert hall with a waterfront walk along its own marina. The hall is a flat-floor room, so it is set out differently for different bookings. Outside, the boardwalk runs past moored boats and continues past the restaurant frontages.
Who Turns Up
Concert audiences, restaurant and spa bookings and hotel guests are all published as using the same waterfront side of the building. Richmond residents walk the boardwalk without entering the resort at all, and the river traffic and the airport approach overhead are part of what people are standing there watching.
What The Room Makes Possible
A flat-floor hall and a public boardwalk share one frontage, so a room that has just emptied puts several hundred people onto a walkway that was already in use. There is one direction to walk, along the water, and one way back.

04 Casino Rama Resort

A concert hall on land of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, a hall on the lake shore
The Room They Share
The resort stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, near the shore of Lake Couchiching. Its entertainment hall is the largest single room on the site, and beyond the buildings the ground runs down to open water. Kitchens, a spa and a golf course are reached from the same central corridor.
Who Turns Up
Published descriptions place concert audiences from across central Ontario alongside overnight guests and golfers on the same corridor and the same lake frontage. The resort is operated for the First Nation, and that ownership is stated openly in its own material rather than left as background.
What The Room Makes Possible
Because the hall, the kitchens and the way out to the water all hang off one corridor, the site has no separate service route for guests. The lake edge is unbuilt, so people who leave the hall walk out onto ground with nothing on it.
